Celebrating Women's Empowerment: The One Bharat Sari Walkathon 2023 Unveils Mumbai's Vibrant Cultural Tapestry with LIVA Sarees
August 27, 2024The Ministry of Textiles orchestrated a monumental event, the 'One Bharat Sari Walkathon,' in Mumbai, showcasing the unity in diversity and promoting financial independence for women. Following the success of the Surat Sari Walkathon, where 15,000 women participated, this Mumbai edition aimed to spotlight India's rich cultural heritage, emphasizing the direct impact of handloom sectors on 35 lakh individuals.
In a collaborative stride towards sustainability and cultural celebration, Birla Cellulose proudly joined hands with the Ministry of Textiles as one of the title sponsors for the 'One Bharat Saree Walkathon' series happening nationwide. This partnership seeks to create awareness about Liva in sarees and advocate for sustainability in the realm of traditional attire.
For the Mumbai event, Birla Cellulose sponsored 300 Liva sarees for government employees, with women participants proudly donning Liva sarees from the Bhagalpur cluster. Mannequins adorned with diverse blends of Liva sarees let women experience the texture and quality of these sustainable fabrics.
The Mumbai Edition of the walkathon was inaugurated by the Minister of State for Textiles, Smt. Darshana Jardosh, and Member of Parliament - Lok Sabha, Smt. Poonam Mahajan. It witnessed 5,000+ women, including professionals, Bollywood and television personalities, sports figures, business women, designers, influencers, and housewives, embodying the spirit of 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.'
The event witnessed a variety of elegant drapes of saris, symbolizing a collective cultural identity. It also championed the 'Vocal for Local' initiative and raised awareness about women's fitness, encouraging healthier lifestyles. Ms. Priyanka Priyadarshini, Assistant Vice President, Business Development – Birla Cellulose, took the stage to speak about the essence of Liva in sarees and the imperative of sustainability, resonating with the enthusiastic crowd.
By combining the economic, cultural and regional elements, the 'One Bharat Sari Walkathon' is poised to make a meaningful impact, celebrating the unity in diversity that characterizes India while simultaneously promoting the enduring legacy of handloom craftsmanship.
