Staple Fibre Division, Nagda was established in the year 1947 (just 10 days after India attained independence) and commissioned in 1954. It is a specialty fibre site producing a wide range of viscose staple fibres (VSF) like regular viscose and spun-dyed fibres, and also second and third generation fibres like Birla Modal, Birla Excel. Nagda plant is also the largest producer of spun-dyed specialty fibre in the world.

The integrated sites of pulp & fibre were commissioned in the year 1972-73 and 1976-77 respectively. Harihar Polyfibers is at the forefront of dissolving pulp technology employing pre-hydrolysis Kraft process and being the first to introduce oxygen bleaching, nearly 90% of energy used coming from renewables and 98% chemical recovery. Grasilene Division is the viscose fibre manufacturing site and catering predominantly to domestic market.

Located in New Brunswick, Canada, the company comprises of two dissolving pulp mills – the Atholville Mill, a specialty cellulose pulp mill and the Nackawic Mill, a specialty hardwood kraft mill. The mills use a blend of hardwood and softwood to produce high-quality dissolving pulp or specialty cellulose for the manufacturing of natural-based, viscose staple fibre, for the apparel and home textile industry. Most of the pulp produced by AV Group is supplied to Aditya Birla Group’s viscose plants in India, Indonesia and Thailand.

It is the only company in the world to have a closed-loop bleaching process with zero emissions.
