What’s your style resolution for 2020? Here’s ours!
December 31, 2019 | The Liva LifestyleBesides, it also helps us be more environmentally conscious
We’ve almost stepped out of the 2010s, and looking back at the decade brings forth memories of several sartorial trends. While few of these trends backed up the OTT approach, others validated the minimalistic one. But if we had to sum up all of it, one major highlight was that designers and celebrities turned towards conscious, sustainable fashion without a speck of doubt. The movement picked up quickly and remained the topic of conversation mostly towards the second half. And we believe, if the past decade was about the talks and early initiations, the 2020s should be about groundbreaking action.
Despite the textile industry being the second largest polluter of freshwater in the world, we feel the little steps that we take as individuals can make a bigger impact. So this year, why not pledge for a more sustainable lifestyle? A right way to start with is by shopping less, repurposing your existing wardrobe and being conscious about what we wear by choosing high quality eco-friendly fabrics.
While doing so, we’ll not only be contributing to a responsible future of fashion and the climate, but also consciously be developing a unique sense of style. If that’s not a win-win, we don’t know what is.
If you’re ready to begin the journey with us, here’s a quick guide on how and where to begin.
First off, actively take a sustainability pledge
As a small part of society, we feel our individual efforts make no difference to the environment of the world. This month, drop all thoughts like that. Each and every decision that we make contributes to something larger and to the greater good. Take the sustainability pledge and know that your efforts are accounted for. Now the next step is to act. But how? Start by being conscious about what you wear.
This doesn’t mean you have to hunt for outfits really hard. Today, it’s fairly simple to maintain a sustainable wardrobe. Checking labels and tags on the clothes you pick is a good way to start.
When out on your shopping sprees, you can still visit your favourite brands and pick out silhouettes of your liking. Brands like Liva have collaborated with many of these labels, including W for Woman and Max Fashion, among others, to make it easier for you. By picking out garments with the Liva tag, know that you’re taking a step towards being responsibly fashionable. Liva’s eco-friendly fabric, Livaeco™️ is made from cellulosic fibres, is sourced from certified sustainable forestry, consumes less water and is manufactured with low CO2 emissions. It’s also biodegradable, making a smaller impact on the planet. You can easily find it at the aforementioned stores just by looking for the Liva tag on the outfits you plan to take home.
Adopt better shopping habits
Buying outfits just because they’re on sale is not what we’re opting for this year. Make a list of wardrobe staples that you need and look for them in sustainable fabrics. Pick high-quality apparel that will stand the test of time and will not have to be discarded after a season. Fancy a particular dress? Check what it’s made of. There are chances you will find something similar at a sustainable fashion brand or in a sustainable fabric like Liva. Last but not the least, make carry-your-own-bag a natural habit.
Mend, don’t replace
If something’s gone wrong, like a lace has fallen off a dress, you don’t have to replace the outfit right away. Try to fix whatever is salvageable instead of throwing it out. This could also mean creative interventions, by the way. Watch YouTube tutorials to mend outfits in a way that they feel new and give your style an edgy twist. Mix, match, mend, repeat is a fashion mantra you could definitely adopt in 2020.
Don’t give up your unique sense of style. Instead, hone it
Opting for eco-friendly clothing doesn’t mean you have to wear limited colours and designs. Not just sustainable, Liva is also a brand that is design and fashion-forward. Go for their fluid and flowy outfits that give you a sense of freedom while also making your style effortless and chic. Don’t forget to look for their tag when you step out to shop next time. The silhouettes will keep you right on track with your sustainable resolution, while also helping you keep up with the latest trends and styles.
