The Paris Fashion Week is part of the four biggest fashion weeks of the world (London, New York and Milan Fashion Weeks) and this year, it stood out because of a ‘’walk-off” that took place between actors Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller. This of course was a promotional gimmick and official announcement for the duo’s movie sequel, Zoolander 2, where the actors play supermodels and rival-n-besties. But what were the other (fashion related) highlights of the Fashion Week? Let’s have a look.

Maximalism

It’s the exact opposite of minimalism and if this year’s collections were any indication, Paris, the world’s capital for chic fashion, is now slowly and steadily undergoing a massive overhaul. One got to see several textures, prints and colours through the collections of the likes of Dries Van Noten and Dior. Through his Balmain collection, Olivier Rousteing focused on vibrant colours, shoulder pads, frills and lots of gold. Subtle appearances have been thrown out the window, ladies; it’s time to be bold and gaudy!

Giant earrings

How can maximalism be complete without huge earrings? Statement jewelry is already a fad by now, thanks to the 2014 collection of Nicolas Ghesquière for Louis Vuitton. At the Paris Fashion Week, Givenchy showcased massive earrings; going to the lengths of introducing went face jewelry, while Olivier Rousteing’s models strutted off on the ramp wearing actual minerals on their ears. On the other hand, Jonathan Anderson came up with mismatched statement earrings that were beautifully in sync with his ‘mad-inventor’ collection.

The Abnormal Trousers

With ‘normal’ thrown out of the window, this year the designers focused on all sorts of lengths for their trousers, which to the layman’s eye would look nothing short of awkward. So while Givenchy’s short trousers gave off an aura of street fashion, Stella McCartney’s trousers were highlighted with fluting at their hems. And it was Hermès that showcased the most wearable trousers – the ones that were neither too short nor too long and would look gorgeous when combined with block heeled boots.

Tweed

Tweed, and in fashion? Your surprise is understandable, but hears us out. Or rather, just peruse through the collections of Balenciaga and his sharp tweed coats or Stella McCartney’s and Dior’s tweed office wear. Their designs are magnificent and will leave you stunned.

Very deep V-necks

The loose one piece jumpsuits by Céline in their gorgeous shades of sea green and oatmeal brown stole the show, while Chloé took inspiration from the 70s and came up with tunics and dresses that had gorgeous plunging necklines which were perfect for that sexy yet feminine look. For those who find it uncomfortable to wear deep v-necks on casual occasions, worry not! You can easily pair your deep v-necks with high-neck tops!
