Nail The Smart Casual Look

Who says your office clothes have to be rigid and boring? Considering that most of us spend nearly three quarters of our week at work, it helps to wear clothes that not only show off your sense of style but your personality as well. So, say bye-bye to the boxy jackets and hello to a more fluid style of dressing that’s perfect for the summery months ahead. Skirting the issue: Skirts are a great way to add a feminine touch to your usual office attire. Since mini-skirts are not often appreciated at the workplace, go for a skirt that falls at the knee or mid-calf -- these hemlines are also very trendy right now. Pair this skirt with a crisp white shirt and a patterned scarf. 1427888918_tmp_shutterstock_131401997 Fit it right: Apart from the length, the fit of the skirt is also important. Nothing too tight as it will be uncomfortable to manage for long hours on end, but nothing too loose either as that will make you look bulky. Choose a fabric that gently skims over your body so that it’s flattering but hides any unsightly bumps. 1428298527_tmp_shutterstock_211218331 Pattern it up: Prints on skirts, tops and tees are a great way to achieve the smart casual look. But, to keep it cool yet work appropriate, opt for small prints. Larger ones fight out for attention and can be too loud for the workplace. 1428298624_tmp_shutterstock_228444871 Layer tip: Jackets are a great choice for work - especially if you skip the boring boxy black ones and opt for a jacket in a flowing fabric. Not only is it breathable, a much needed asset in the summer heat, it skims the body making you look slimmer. A waterfall style jacket, which falls just below the hips, in a flowing fabric, will be a versatile addition to your wardrobe.   1428298682_tmp_shutterstock_253903690 Keep it light: Dresses do not have to be limited to the weekend. There are a number of dress styles that are work appropriate, comfortable and can make a great style statement. Since you have to maintain some formality, opt for dresses in solid colours. But, that doesn't mean it has to be boring. Even if the dress is monotone, make it interesting by adding a drape. This can usually be achieved by picking lightweight fabrics. 1428298734_tmp_shutterstock_211594318   Experiment with the top: If your office is a little more formal, and you have to wear formal trousers and skirts, add a little fun to your look by choosing blouses and shirts that are colourful or printed. Since your bottoms will be of a thicker fabric, elegant tops are a must. Grey formal trousers and skirts go very well with pastel hued fluid tops. 1428298713_tmp_shutterstock_140197831 From office to party look: Smart casuals work in an office set up, but smart casuals should be able to help you transition from work to party with a few small touches. Pairing a cute sleeveless top with a flowing jacket and dark hued jeans means that you can simply take off the jacket, add a smear of lipstick and you’re ready to party!   1427888991_tmp_shutterstock_239325088 Use these smart dress tips and earn brownie points for making the effort to look natty and crisply turned out everyday at the workplace.
