Layering Is ‘In’ This Summer!
May 25, 2015 | The Liva LifestyleNobody does layering better than the Brits!
Layering is everywhere – on the streets, inside offices, homes, on dates – just everywhere! Maybe it’s their weather, or maybe it’s just their unique sense of style, but the Brits have mastered the art of layering. And this year, thanks to the numerous Spring/Summer Fashion Weeks the world over, it is soon going to become main stream.
Layering is an extremely cool and comfortable way of dressing up, but one must first understand what exactly it is that one has to layer, and how to layer it properly, lest one might end up looking like a hobo. When asked about her opinion on this latest trend, designer Vera Wang said, “Layering lends certain nonchalance,” which is actually true. Just look at the way Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Kate Moss dress up – even though it seems like they just got up in the morning and threw a pile of clothes on their body, the whole world goes gaga over their style quotient.
So how does one begin with layering and stop before it turns into piling? To be honest, the technique behind layering does take some time and a lot of messed up appearances before you can narrow down on the style and methodology which suits your body and personality the best. Still, we’ll try to break things down for you. Wear the thinnest layer closest to your skin (leggings, stockings, skinny jeans or body hugging shirts). Wear one layer over it (shorts or loose shirts) and top it off with a jacket or thick scarves. 3 layers is your safest bet.
And what clothes can one layer? Well, the key is to mix and match and that can be said for a whole variety of options like textures, fabrics, colours, proportions and what not! You can easily pair an office blouse with an unbuttoned denim shirt and team it with a thin vest. For the more experimental women, wearing a belt in a bright shade is an excellent way to top off their look. Or you can opt for pairing a cropped jumper with a shirt of a contrasting colour underneath it.
Here are other things which can make you look effortlessly chic and edgy - rolled up sleeves, thigh high boots, hoodies, an over-sized bag, a scarf in a neutral colour or even knew length skirts paired with colourful leggings. For a safer option, stick to skinny bottoms in darker colours. Or if you feel that even 3 layers of clothes are too much for you, you can always wear loose tops with leggings and finish that look off with chunky bracelets and layers of necklaces.
