Kangana Ranaut – Bollywood’s Style Diva

May 27, 2015 | Tinsel Trends

Remember when a shy Kangana Ranaut stepped into Bollywood in the year 2006? She had no contacts in the film industry, had crazy curly hair and an accent that was continuously ridiculed by everybody. However, with the passage of time, her talent started being recognized, yet the one place that she lagged in severely was her sense of fashion. Who would have thought that almost a decade down the line, this very talented actress would become a familiar show stopper at numerous runways? While a lot is said about style icons Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut has not gathered equivalent limelight for her incredible fashion sense until recently.

The actress is all about wearing soft and feminine silhouettes with clothes that are clearly comfortable and provide a certain sense of fluidity to her already dynamic personality. Her untamed curls, lean frame and complete confidence help her give an edge over other actresses. She can carry almost any style, but she prefers sticking to classic looks (like those of Audrey Hepburn).

Her change came about in 2012, where she came across as a completely different personality. Remember how Anne Hathaway’s character underwent a complete transformation in the Princess Diaries? This curly haired, small town girl in questionable clothes suddenly became a stylish and graceful woman. Her voluminous dresses, Burberry gowns and pearl necklaces ensured her a place in the book of “Women with Class”. It took her some time, but she finally found a style she was comfortable with, which could be defined in two simple words – vintage and elegant. 2013 was all about well-defined waists, high heels, structured handbags, sunglasses and strands of pearls

2014 was when she started appearing in a lot of lists containing names of well dressed celebrities. Her style was more relaxed and comfortable and she seemed most confident in what she wore.  She wore a chic strapless white gown at the Gr8 Women Awards, and finished off her look with an embellished floral clutch and silver sandals.

She even made it on the cover of numerous magazines, including Vogue’s January issue where she donned a white Burberry Prorsum dress. She is someone who isn’t afraid to experiment and this aspect was exploited by numerous fashion magazines, who sometimes pushed a little too far with their so called creativity. If you saw her promotions for Queen, you’d have noticed how she managed to stay ahead of the fashion curve. In one of her appearances, she made a bold statement by wearing a ribbed flared dress which was accompanied with her hair in a middle parting.

Much like Sonam Kapoor, she does not care about what critics say of her style, and her devil may care attitude was on full display at the Cannes where she wore a polka-dot saree. Kapoor herself stated that Ranaut was “well turned out”.

If being fashionable were an Olympic race in Bollywood, then Kangana could well be leading the pack right now.
