Gauri Khan, wife of Shahrukh Khan, debuted her designer collection at the Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2015 in honour of 30 years of Satya Paul in the Indian fashion industry. Her collection marked the end of Day 3.

She came up with a line of clothes for the young Indian woman to have in her summer wardrobe. Her collection was titled,"A Tropical Wonder" and it was full of a riot of colours and luxurious prints which could easily be worn on both casual and formal occasions. Her collection was dominated by versatile shift dresses, fluid kaftans, sheer tunics and gorgeous saris. One could very clearly see her own sense of style in her collection on the models walking down the ramp. Apart from heavy prints, which is a signature of Satya Paul’s, the display of her collection ensured a heavy turnout from Bollywood.

The front row filled up very quickly, and why shouldn’t it have? After all, it was King Khan’s wife who was going to display her talent to the country with her first ever collection of saris and resort wear for Satya Paul! Apart from the obvious names like Karan Johar and Malaika Arora Khan, one could also see Tanisha Mukherjee, Dabboo Ratnani, Ali Fazal, Mandira Bedi, Tamannaah Bhatia and Adhuna Akhtar enjoying the show.

The fabrics used consisted mostly of chiffon, luxe organza, cotton, silk, tulle, satin Lurex borders and georgette. Needless to say, the highlight of Mrs Khan’s Tropical Wonder was her colour palette. The colours that dominated her collection were deep ombré sunset tones, aquatic shades and fresh citrus.  For day time wear, totes were in neutral or metallic colours, while formal clutches were comprised of prints and laser cuts.  One could see models sashaying down the ramp in summery prints with very breezy and fluid clothes. Her line also included tunics, wraps and flowing shirts.

Her georgette and satin sarees were paired with sensuous crossover halter blouses, cut-out necklines, tantalizing low back blouses, bikini styles. One of her blouses had tassels, while another had smaller tassels which ended in knots. Her beachwear consisted of bikinis in metallic colours, monokinis and maillots, apart from beach cover ups like tops and skirts. Other covers included sarongs, kaftans and tunics in a myriad of colours. Of course, one could see that Bollywood had heavily inspired her collection, and the glittering sequins work ensured that her collection ‘sparkled’.

The prints of her collection were largely botanical in nature, with calligraphic scribbles and palm motifs printed on leaves, splashed all over clothes hand painted with splashes of ombre.  She later on said, “My signature line of clothing for Satya Paul will showcase a distinctive aspect of my own personal style. Co-creating and endorsing a line for one of India’s finest brands will be a new experience for me”. The day also saw interesting collections by up and coming Delhi designers, the likes of which included Dhruv Kapoor, Sahil Aneja and Nikhil Thampi.
