Date Night Style Files

Whether it’s your first date or your tenth, a classic date such as a movie or coffee date deserves a classic look. Here are five style rules you need to follow to make sure you make the right impression.
Keep it casual
Movies can go on for hours, just like good conversation over a few cups of coffee, so the first rule is to make sure you are comfortable. That means that the high heels and long gowns need to take a backseat. However, casual doesn't mean wearing your sweatpants for a date -- you still want to look cute! Opt for your favorite pair of jeans and a nice top instead.
The right fabric
While jeans are the perfect choice for a coffee or movie date, if you want to take it up a notch, wear a pretty but non-fussy dress. However, you need to make sure the dress (or top) you pick is in the right fabric. Since you will be sitting for long periods of time, pick an outfit that doesn't crumple very easily. Fluid fabrics are an ideal choice.
Cover up
When it comes to the theater hall or a coffee shop, the temperature is usually cool -- too cool for some. So, make sure you always carry a lightweight jacket or a scarf that you can throw on if the temperature dips. There’s nothing worse than shivering right through your date instead of having fun. A neutral hued jacket or scarf (try blue, army green or black) is your best bet as it is versatile and will go with pretty much any look.
Maintain your style
If you’re not used to certain styles of dressing, then the dinner or coffee date is not the time to try something new. Remember that the date is about getting to know the other person and not fussing about the hemline of your new dress or thinking about how your new shoes are pinching. Stick to your favourite items of clothing that you have got compliments for in the past.
Colour code
Remember that on this type of date, there is going to be food around: Popcorn, coffee, sauce etc, so it’s best to steer away from light coloured clothes that will show off every small spill or crumb. The best colours to pick for a coffee or movie date are navy blue, army green, chocolate brown and deep maroon. These hues also show warmth and will attract the other person to you.
Apparel aside, we'd totally recommend that you play around with accessories. A statement watch, earrings or bracelet go perfectly even with a simple jeans and tee combo. Another way to stand out from the crowd is to carry a nice handbag in a bright hue to complement your look. But, the most important aspect, we're sure you will agree, is to just have fun with your sweetheart.
