For those of you who aren’t already aware, Marsala is the colour of the month. The name gets its origins through, believe it or not, the Marsala wine that is renowned for its deeply earthy red and luxuriously rich hue. The Kapoor Sisters

Both the sisters (photographed on different occasions) were spotted in Marsala outfits that were monochromatic. Monochrome is actually the easiest and safest option to opt for if you don’t want to experiment too much with Marsala. Even in monochromes, you have the option of going white-marsala, black-marsala or simply opting for only hues of Marsala – they’re all perfect because this colour compliments almost every single colour on the colour wheel. The actresses opted for knee length pencil skirts with their blouses tucked in and hairs in casual up-dos.

Diya Mirza

Doesn’t Diya look breathtaking in her Marsala lehenga-choli? While most actresses go out of their way to flaunt as much skin as possible, Diya decided to go the more elegant way. She wore a floor-length Manish Malhotra anarkali. The blouse had a high neck and full sleeves, with minimal work done on it. Her lehenga had beautiful gold detailing on it (yet another colour that looks magical when paired with Marsala), and her appearance was complimented by her golden jhumkis, smokey eyes and light pink lips

Sonakshi Sinha

If you’re looking to have a romantic night out with someone special, then look no further than Miss Sinha’s plum body-hugging gown! It’s not maroon, nor is it Marsala; it’s an intricate shade of the two – a beautiful blend of maroon and wine red. And as was with the case of Diya, Sonakshi too opted to enhance the appearance of her gown with the colour gold. But she went the Western way and opted for a thick golden metallic belt. And she looked extremely sophisticated, don’t you think? Her minimal makeup perfectly kept the attention towards her dress and her newly lost weight.

Neha Dhupia

Here’s another B-town lady who was seen wearing traditional Indian wear in a gorgeous shade of Marsala. Photographed at Shilpa Shetty’s Diwali party, Miss Dhupia wore a Payal Singhal saree and she looked ravishing in it! Her accessories were kept to a minimum - a black statement box clutch by Bottega Veneta, antique gold earrings, necklace and a metallic gold bracelet. Her hair was pulled back and as was the case with the other 3 heroines featured in our article, her makeup was muted so that attention wasn’t taken away from her ensemble.

Conclusion

Marsala might appear to be a very daunting colour, but don’t be afraid to experiment. You can experiment with colour combinations (Marsala with gold, black, white, pinks, browns and other shades of red) or you can experiment with the fabrics of your outfit (velvet, denim, satin, cotton etc).
